We ended the year with the steps from the footbridge to the greenhouse set with native granite.

In July, we had a bee hive relocated from one of the chimneys to the Prunedale farm of JR Githens, a 75 year young beekeeper who says beekeepers have no arthritis due to the body's natural response to bee stings(Those allergic to bee stings excepted). 10 lbs of honey was the serendipitous result. And I have no arthritis in about 12 places in and around my scalp.

In June, Searock was host to Project Rwanda: bicycles, coffee and international goodwill.

In spring, we built new raised garden beds for the kitchen garden, so we wouldn't have to share so much with our gopher friends. We used the left over lumber from the greenhouse project, which had lain dormant for many years and needed to be cleaned up. It turned out to be the ideal material for raised beds: red gum eucalyptus. Rot-proof, hard-as-nails, yet tools nicely and is beautiful. We planted tomatoes,asparagus, kale, lettuce, bell pepper, chard, spinach, carrots, radish, pumpkin, yellow squash, acorn squash, green beans, peas, raddichio, arugula, strawberries, artichoke, basil, parsley, dill, lemon cucumber...Gophers were not happy, but Gideon: started helping himself to the tomatoes, strawberries and green beans when he thought noone was looking. He gives new meaning to the phrase "watch dog".

At this time one year ago, the original stonework down the cliff was hand cleaned by our staff rock climbing expert.
